Outreach

Happy fall, Y’all! I sincerely hope our congregation enjoyed the warm summer months. I traveled south to Nashville and returned to excellent news: Our backpack program was a success! On Thursday, August 3rd, the Whaley family delivered all items to Bridge Academy & Community Center in Coatesville:

  • Grades K- 5th Full Backpacks: 9

  • Grades 6 - 12th Full Backpacks: 7

  • Extra Supplies:

    • Packages of 10 Pencils: 5

    • Glue Sticks: 4 small, 17 large

    • Rounded-tip scissors: 6 Rulers: 4

    • Crayons 24-count: 5

    • 2-Pocket Folders: 6

    • Pink Pearl Erasers: 16

    • Small Pencil Sharpeners: 2

    • Whiteboard: 1

    • Spiral Notebook: 2

    • Pack of Pens: 1

    • Pencil Pouch: 1

    • Colored Pencils: 1

This means 16 full backpacks were given in support of our local youth – along with some extra goodies. A very special call of thanks goes to Christine and Harry Whaley, Jr., for all their hard work on this program. You are our backpack heroes!

In keeping with tradition, the Outreach committee continued delivering fresh meals to the Atkinson shelter this summer. We also continue to collect non-perishable food items for the Coventry Food Pantry. Multiple trunkloads of canned and dry goods have benefited our neighbors in Chester County. St. Andrews also received another note of thanks from the Atkinson shelter – these letters are posted on our bulletin board outside the Upper Hall for everyone to read.

As we look towards the upcoming program year, I am glad to announce our fall meeting will be Sunday September 17, after the 10 AM service. I am truly humbled to share the Outreach ministry with our congregation, and I am reminded of a verse from James 2:15: “Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, ‘Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?” We as a church work tirelessly to share Christ’s love with our community, and I am inspired by our efforts to build another great program this coming year!
